Le Lanterne Rouge Challenge

Updated: 3 days ago

The last rider to finish the Tour de France is called Le Lanterne Rouge (Red Lantern). This honorable distinction has been recognized since the first Tour in 1903. In the modern Tour riders are required to finish within 20% of the winner's time each day or they are considered "out of the limit" and are then eliminated from continuing. On many stages riding within the time limit is an heroic task itself!

The Challenge: to ride 20% of the distance of the Tour de France earning red lanterns along the way.

THE CHALLENGE CONTINUES WITH THE WOMEN'S TOUR

The Tour is no picnic for Picnic Post (3-4 riders in the last 10) but I'm hedging on St. MIchelle too. One stage to go and it's a douzy...

Now we focus on the women's Tour (avec ZWIFT). There's no rest days and 9 stages. We're picking the lantern rouge on the last day - and that's going to be more difficult than the men because the last stage is considered mountainous and whomever is in last going into that final day may not be a given.

Cees Bol held on to get the Lanterne Rouge - Team Decathlon #6 - now for the women's race starting next week!

Ces Bol is still 2:30 benind 2nd last place - 2 stages to go and he holds tight to the red lantern.

Wellens barely made it under the time cut and MdNulty had to abandon UAE is sick (and I mean ill). Ces Bol's still carrying the lanterne rouge (42 seconds seperates the last two riders) but with more Alps to go there'll be some DNF (over the time limit). I'm thinking Bol's doing better than most and is in charge of maintaining that red lantern.
